NovaPensa is a ThinkTank originated from African Leadership University in September 2024. We decided to tackle one of Africa's grand challenge being Infrastructure specificaly access to clean water in rural communities.
Only 57% of rural communities in Ngoma district have access to clean water in their homes or 30 minutes distance from their homes. .
This is our solution to the problem, a water treatment plant solar powered and run by the community.
As of 2023, 82.3% of Rwanda's population has access to clean water, but only 76.8% of households in Ngoma District do.
We want to establish a water treatment plant which is solar power and run by the community.
We will establissh a vast network of pipes to distribute water from the plant to the neigbourhoods.
There will be a large tank for storing treated water and we'll also encourage people to home tanks to store water for emergencies.
We want to use SMS/RCS messages to let people know when there is water or when there is a shortage.
To implement the project we'll need a starting point of at least $10,000.
As young leaders at NovaPensa, we are dedicated to establishing a sustainable solution for clean water access in Ngoma District. Our vision is a solar-powered water treatment facility that purifies local water sources and distributes it directly to the community through an extensive pipeline network. By harnessing solar energy, our prototype offers an eco-friendly and efficient approach to ensure a reliable supply of safe, clean water for all.
